"There are so many disciplines in being a parent besides the obvious ones like getting up in the night and putting up with noise during the day. And almost the hardest of all is learning to be a well of affection and not a fountain, to show them we love them, not when we feel like it, but when they do." ~Nan Fairbrother

Few things as yummy. Washing up my baby's after a long day of summer play! |
I love summer, when else can you make chocolate chip cookies at 10pm, just for fun.
I love the heat of summer. I Love summer in Austin.... I know I know I may be the only one ont the planet that feels that way. But it is true. I would not trade 3-4 months of toasty weather for anything because the rest of the year is perfection.
I love that I can walk out of the chilled grocery store at 9:30 the eve of the Sabbath with all our Sunday BBQ treats and feel a gush of warm wind on my arms and face. It is heaven.
I la-ove having no schedule (most days) and the hanging out all day in our comfies just because we want to. I love chill bedtimes and relaxed mornings.
I love that we can spontaneously go swimming at 5pm and not have bedtime, homework and dinner pressing my mind.
I love that Tyler said "Ahhh...I've GOT to go get dressed" and it was 2pm in the afternoon.
I love that I can sit with my kids and watch their favorite music videos online for an hour 1/2.
I love forts. Somehow... peanut butter sandwhiches with homemade jam seem to taste amazing while being sheltered under a fort made of Mom made quilts. Forts seemed to be the theme around our house those first few days of summer break. We have had all manner of forts built that have quickly been adopted as the preferred place of rest, even for Douey and Burger. Brothers and sister sleepovers, in forts are the best!
I love sun-kissed foreheads and dry feet from running barefoot on the street.
I love swimsuits hanging on doorknobs.
I love flip-flop tans on toes.
I love dress ups and tea parties and strategic make believe play that 3 &5 year olds love.
I love bikes, skateboards, bubbles and dropped popsicle sticks.
All this means summer and I love it!
Summer is a great reward for the long many months of school, practices, sports and on and on. I am grateful for summer.
Hope you are enjoying it too.... it is drawing to a close quickly :)
Be a "well", always.
